Born in the Midwest, I spent most of my adult life in the San Francisco Bay Area, Northwest Oregon and the Desert Southwest. After attending Shimer College I spent a three year stint in the prefabricated housing industry. After moving across the country at the age of 23, I spent my life working in sales, the last 20 years as a real estate broker in three western states. I was on the Board of Directors of two different REALTOR® Associations in Oregon and served as the President of one of them. Now I live in Central Florida with my wife of over three decades, Karen.
We love to travel, to experience other countries, their people and culture. We have our favorite restaurants in Las Vegas, Miami, Paris and Rome. We have had lunch in Istanbul and Athens, making new friends everywhere. We also love to stay at home and enjoy the cuisines of other countries prepared right in our own kitchen. I probably don’t contribute as much as I should, but Karen is such an accomplished, adventurous cook, not afraid to explore outside the culinary box.
In my mid-sixties, I have finally figured out what I want to do when I “grow up”. Over the last ten years, I have developed a real passion for genealogy, and more recently, genetic genealogy. I am the founder and administrator of the Lannin DNA Project in conjunction with FamilyTreeDNA.com.
In November 2014 The Villages Genealogical Society elected me its President. My term is for the years 2015-2016. My goal is to continue the high quality programs we offer, and to expose our membership to some of the best genealogy speakers in the country. Our VGS Website is VGSFL.org
Since 2013, I have been a member of the Florida State Genealogical Society Speakers Bureau. I travel around the State of Florida speaking to Genealogical Societies and other groups on various genealogy related topics. Interested groups may reach me on this site’s Have Jim Lannin Speak to Your Group Page.
